The West Central Oregon Science Exposition at Monmouth, Oregon

Overview:

The Central Western Oregon Science Expo (CWOSE) will meet on Friday February 22/ Saturday February 23, 2008 at the Western Oregon University Werner Center.  CWOSE is a joint meeting of the Oregon Junior Academy of Science (OJAS), Junior Science and Humanities Symposium – JSHS (Sponsored by American Academy of Applied Science and the military), and the Regional Intel Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF).  

Oregon Junior Academy of Science OJAS and Junior Science and Humanities Symposium (JSHS) are statewide oral science competitions that have thus far drawn as many as 300 participants each year.  Participants include middle school and high school students and teachers, participants from colleges and universities, and the general public.  Adele Schepige and Arlene Courtney direct these symposia.  JSHS finalists receive scholarships and the opportunity to attend the National JSHS meeting.

The Regional Intel Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) is a poster and project display competition sponsored by the Intel Corp., and is open to middle and high school students.  The West-Central region includes Benton, Lane, Lincoln, Linn, Marion, Polk, Tillamook and Yamhill counties, along with unaffiliated regions of Oregon. Regional winners obtain scholarships and the opportunity to present at the State ISEF (the Northwest Science Expo), and ISEF international fair.  The ISEF international meeting will be held in Portland in May, 2008.  Regional Directors of the ISEF West Central Oregon Region are Dr. David Hackleman (OSU Linus Pauling Chair in Chemical Engineering, Hewlett Packard Corp.
