Oregon Junior Academy of Science (OJAS)(Oral presentations, open to all
middle/high school Oregon students.) To make participation easier and more
exciting for all who attend, we have coordinated three events! We plan to include
an opportunity to learn about regional science educational resources. You may
wish to present material, attend a session, or participate on a discussion panel.
In addition, we will have other exciting science-related activities. Here is the
targeted list (some of these utilize www interactions!): - Electric
and hybrid vehicles: Cars, even possibly a SEGWAY to ride!
- Working fuel
cell demonstrations! Take apart computers!
- Trebuchet and robot open invitational
competitions
- Fun science and engineering accomplishments forum
- Aquatic
biology presentations and forum
- Digital photography open invitational
- Local
industries in engineering and science
- University engineering and science
program representatives
- Science and engineering education forum
In
addition, winners will receive significant awards, the opportunity to travel to
national meetings and national recognition, as will their teachers, schools, and
communities. In 2003, one high school student from Oregon received $75,000 in
scholarships and awards at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair
in Cleveland, Ohio, and several other students received thousands of dollars as
well! In this day of financial challenge, this is a bright star! (While attendance
costs are minimal, financial support to attend this event is available for those
in need. See the above web pages for more details.) Fields include all sciences
(biological, social, physical, and mathematics) and technologies (including computers
and robots). Individual and team entries are permitted. Teachers: Only
you can make it possible for your students to participate in these events! Please
